8th Annual Roslindale Open Studios


Roslindale, MA... The Roslindale Arts Alliance announces the 8th Annual Roslindale Open Studios (ROS) to take place on Saturday November 3 and Sunday November 4, 2012. This highly acclaimed event offers the public two days of viewing unique art. Over 100 local artists will open up 32 home studios and display in 6 group sites and 11 businesses throughout Roslindale Village. Art mediums that will be represented include: paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture, printmakers, mixed media, stained glass, ceramics, mosaics, jewelry, textiles and more. ROS group site sponsors include Roslindale House, Longfellow House, The Boston School of Modern Language, Sacred Heart School and Roslindale Congregational Church.


Roslindale Open Studios will take place each day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Note: Roslindale Congregational Church site will open at noon on Sunday. Admission is free across the entire venue. There will be an opening Preview Reception on Friday November 2nd  from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Longfellow House, 885 South Street, Roslindale that is open to the public and is free. At the reception there will be an opportunity to meet artists, view art from Home Studios. Light refreshments sponsored by Roslindale Village Main Street will be available.


On Saturday only, the Roslindale Community Center at 6 Cummins Highways will be part of ROS 2012 by hosting the Roslindale Arts Initiative (RAI). They will  present 2-D and 3-D art from Roslindale K-8 students as part of the 2012 Roslindale Open Studios. The RAI is organized by the School Partnership Program of Eliot School of Fine & Applied Arts, in association with Boston Public Schools, BCYF Roslindale Community Center (RCC), and Boys & Girls Club of Boston.


Also on Saturday only, the Roslindale branch of the Boston Public Library will feature  a presentation by local photographer , Bob Ward. Ward will show a "YouTube Channel" compilation from Noon-2:30pm. that was shot in and around Roslindale including, Roslindale Village Main Street events and promotional videos for Roslindale Open Studios. Also videos shot on a vacation trip to Brazil.
Use your iPhone and download the FREE Roslindale Open Studios App. A list of artists and maps are available online at www.roslindaleopenstudios.org. Brochures will be available at all group sites and in local businesses and libraries.

Roslindale Open Studios is a program of the Roslindale Arts Alliance (RAA). The RAA is a nonprofit  organization run by artists that is dedicated to a shared cultural vision for the Roslindale community. RAA sponsors art exhibits in local businesses, free kids art at community events, art classes and workshops for all ages, teaching opportunities and networking for local artists. Roslindale Village is a lovely tree-lined neighborhood located in the Southwest section of the City of Boston. It is easily accessible by public transportation - Forest Hills MBTA Subway and numerous bus lines. Home Studio Bingo - Visit at least 6 home studios over the event weekend and be eligible to win prizes!  Pick up a blank bingo card at any of the Group Sites or Home Studios.   Collect a sticker from each Home Studio you visit to fill in all six spots.   Completed bingo cards will be entered to win gift certificates at local businesses
