I work in mostly in encaustic paint, (heated beeswax, tree resin and pigment,) and sometimes in acrylic. I paint fifteen to twenty or more layers onto a cradled birch panel, and sometimes selectively incorporate oil pastel, charcoal, metal leaf, paper fragments, thread, textile elements, or other materials.

My work explores many themes: new beginnings; passion; my queer experience; my experience as a woman; love; travel; celebration; and occasionally, even feminist social commentary. After painting the first five or six layers, I explore and develop the emerging emotional content through bold brushwork, deep transparent layering, symbols and lots of color. Then, the theme of the painting reveals itself.
