When I’m asked what my work is about, I hesitate to answer because I don’t have an overarching artistic philosophy. Because of my training as a cultural historian, and my use of vintage images and materials, some of my collages (which include mid-century record jackets and old photos) evoke history, memory, and the meaning of commercialism. My abstract grid paintings examine the sometimes-fraught relationship between sinuousness and solidity. Overall, I avoid establishing a top-down narrative: my work relies on suggestion. Like history, it is subject to individual evocation, storytelling, interpretation, and contextualization.
