The process of painting is what most fascinates me. I like to see how watercolors and other water media react to different painting surfaces and application techniques. Does the surface affect the edges of a puddle … the flow of the paint … the granulation? Does acrylic paint provide a natural resist for watercolor? What kind of visual texture is created when you move the paint around with a spray bottle? Experimenting with different painting methods and tools appeals to me. These experiments give me something to respond to and motivate me to try out different compositions as I develop each painting intuitively thinking about shape, value, and color.
